What is Ozone?
When you introduce an electrical charge to an oxygen molecule (O2), the oxygen molecule splits to create two oxygen atoms (O1). These atoms attach to another oxygen molecule creating an ozone molecule (O3).
Ozone is created in nature where energy is present with oxygen; UV radiation from the sun breaks up oxygen in the stratosphere forming the Ozone Layer, massive electrical discharges such as lightning creates ozone (the fresh smell often present with a thunderstorm). These are natural sources of moderate amounts of good ozone. The importance of ozone in the environment is often disregarded which is why Ozone Depleting Substances are heavily regulated under the Montreal Protocol. Not the other hand, 'bad' ozone is produced as by-products of man-made reactions of VOCs and nitric oxide in many industries and this is why ozone is widely misunderstood to be dangerous - because it is dangerous but only if inhaling it in its raw form or in conjunction with other pollutants.

When the ozone molecule comes in contact with a “pollutant” such as a virus, bacteria, fungus or yeast, one of the oxygen atoms detach from the ozone molecule and attaches to the pollutant (eliminating the pollutant) thus reverting back to an oxygen molecule increasing the amount of oxygen in the body.
The beneficial effects of ozone on the body, apart from inhaling raw ozone which is dangerous, are endless. Ozone disrupts the integrity of the bacterial cell envelope through oxidation of the phospholipids and lipoproteins. In fungi, ozone inhibits cell growth at certain stages. With viruses, the ozone damages the viral capsid and disrupts the reproductive cycle by disrupting the virus-to-cell contact with peroxidation. The weak enzyme coatings on cells, which make them vulnerable to invasion by viruses, make them susceptible to oxidation and elimination from the body, which then replaces them with healthy cells. How Safe is Ozone?
It is the safest therapy, according to research.
Scientific research about ozone spans over more than 100 years. It is often said that ozone is poisonous and dangerous and that it has not been proven scientifically. These remarks sadly reflect a disappointing ignorance as numerous scientific studies about ozone and its medical applications have indeed been performed over the past 100 years. A great number of these studies have been published in authoritative medical journals and publications.
Ozone has been found to be an extremely safe medical therapy, free from side effects. In a 1980 study done by the German Medical Society for Ozone Therapy, 644 therapists were polled regarding their 384,775 patients, comprising a total of 5,579,238 ozone treatments administered. There were only 40 cases of side effects noted out of this number, which represents an incredibly low rate of 0.000007%, and only four were fatalities. Ozone has thus proven to be the safest medical therapy ever devised.
